  • Day One

    Gold Coast → Charleville → Birdsville

    Check-in to the Gold Coast Seair hangar at 6:15am, departure sees the sun rising to the east. From here you’ll fly west over stunning farmlands, rivers and channel country for Charleville. This central Queensland town is home to the Royal Flying Doctor Service base and museum, you’ll have a chance to visit it after landing at around 10:00am.

    The Royal Flying Doctor Service Visitor Centre provides you with an incredible insight into this iconic outback service which is still being delivered to the people of the outback by the Flying Doctor today.

    After refueling, your tour will continue into the Outback, crossing over the famous Cooper Creek and its remarkable channel country arriving at the historic town of Birdsville around 1:40pm, where lunch will be waiting at the iconic Hotel.

    Ever since William Blair first built the Birdsville Hotel in 1884, it’s weathered sandstone walls have been a welcome refuge to travellers from across the globe for more than 130 years. A destination in its own right, the pub has endured floods, fires and even cyclones to stand as a symbol of the spirit and character of the Outback.

    Regrouping at 4:30pm, climb into an air-conditioned vehicle and head west into the Simpson Desert to enjoy drinks on Big Red, the first major dune as you enter the desert. After sunset, return to the Birdsville Hotel for dinner and drinks at their heritage listed front bar.

    Watching the sun go down while sitting on top one of the tallest of the 1100 vivid red sand dunes in the Simpson Desert is truly a sight to see with some amazing photo opportunities.

  • Day Two

    Birdsville → Overfly Lake Eyre → Longreach

    Day two starts with breakfast at the Birdsville Hotel at 7:00am, before departing for your spectacular scenic flight over Lake Eyre. Tracking south along the Diamantina River into the Goyder Lagoon you’ll fly along the Warburton River over Kalamurina Wildlife Sanctuary and the Tirari Desert. Climbing high you’ll catch your first glimpse at the expansive size of Lake Eyre.

    Lake Eyre is the largest lake in Australia. Renown for the amazing and changing colours of its surface, the only way to appreciate the scale of Lake Eyre is from above.

    Taking in the sheer size, your aircraft will then descend for a low-level flight along the Warburton River mouth before flying back towards Birdsville. Take in the views of the Simpson Desert before overflying the Kallakoopah, Eyre Creek and Big Red. Land back at Birdsville for Lunch at 11:00am.

    There is no better way to see the vast Australian countryside than by air. Your scenic flight will provide you with a birds eye view of some of the most colourful and spectacular landscapes Australia has to offer!

    After lunch your tour will depart Birdsville for Longreach. Fly north following the Diamantina and Thomson Rivers before arriving at Longreach at 2:30pm. Spend the afternoon soaking in the terrace baths at Saltbush Retreat before regrouping at 4:30pm for the Starlight Cruise Experience on the Thomson River. There are endless photo opportunities and insightful commentary before you head ashore for a traditional stockman’s campfire dinner.

    Saltbush Retreat’s rustic but beautiful accommodation reflects the unique textures and tones of Outback Queensland.

  • Day Three


    After an in-room continental breakfast, your morning begins with a transfer to the Qantas Founders Museum at 9:00am. Here you will learn the story of Australia’s national airline. Join a private guided tour of the airpark, home to a Boeing 707, Boeing 747, Super Constellation and DC-3 followed by an early lunch at the museum.

    The Qantas Founders Museum is an award winning, world-class museum and cultural display, eloquently telling the history of Queensland through interpretive displays, interactive exhibits, original replica aircraft including an impressive collection of artefacts and the National Heritage Listed Qantas Hangar.

    After lunch head over to the Stockman’s Hall of Fame for a leisurely stroll through the museum taking in the pioneering history of Australia before walking back to Saltbush Retreat for afternoon nibbles and drinks at 5:00pm.

    The Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame is a spectacular tribute to the people of outback Australia. Officially opening in 1988 over one million people have visited the premises. It is a truly iconic Queensland outback experience!

    In the evening, watch in awe as the Luminescent Longreach show comes to life. A 20-minute spectacular nighttime light and sound experience at the Qantas Founders Museum designed to delight and entertain. At 7:30pm you’ll be transferred to the Bird Cage for dinner before heading back to the Saltbush retreat where you’ll spend the night.

    Stand amongst iconic aircraft as world class projection mapping and 360-degree immersive sound brings the 100 year story of Qantas to life with the mighty Boeing 747 serving as a primary canvas.

  • Day Four
    After an in-room continental breakfast, you’ll depart Longreach at 7:30am and fly east over the Central Highlands and Coalfields. Looking down at rich farming lands contrasted against open cut coal mines towards Gladstone for a quick fuel stop. Your journey continues south for a spectacular scenic flight over the amazing Southern Great Barrier Reef taking in the spectacular Heron Island and Lady Musgrave Island.

    To completely grasp the magnitude of the Great Barrier Reef, you need to see it from the air! The Southern Great Barrier Reef is the official start of the Great Barrier Reef. Enjoy paradise views of coral cays beneath you, coastal beaches and natural wilderness.

    Swap your boots for reef shoes as you land on the Southern Great Barrier Reef, arriving at Lady Elliot Island at 11:40am. Enjoy lunch with Lagoon views at the Beachfront Dining Room before getting ready to join an afternoon private glass bottom boat/guided snorkelling tour where you may snorkel with turtles, reef sharks and over 1,200 different species of fish.

    Lady Elliot Island is a coral cay located at the southern tip of the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef. Situated within a highly protected ‘Green Zone’ the coral cay is a sanctuary for over 1,200 species of marine life and is known for its abundance of manta rays, turtles, reef sharks, dolphins and unspoilt coral reef.

    Spend the afternoon exploring the Islands surrounds or take a reef walk at low tide (tide dependent) before departing at 4:00pm. The trip home concludes with a beautiful scenic flight over Fraser Island, the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Island. Watch as the high-rise lights illuminate the sky over Brisbane City and the Gold Coast before your tour concludes in the early evening.
